Latvian Museum of Pharmacy Riga
At the Riga Pharmacy Museum you can closely observe the foundation of modern medical science from the 18th and 19th centuries and the history of pharmacology in Latvia.
Opened in 1987, the museum is housed in a building built in the 18th century near the Old Town.
From the 17th century onwards, documents, books, pills and various tools related to pharmacology are exhibited in the museum, where products made by Latvian companies are also on display. So much so; even Balsam, the local drink of Latvia, is on display. Because Latvian people prefer Balsam because it is good for diseases.
Most of the explanations are in Latvian, so it’s hard to understand what the medicines are for, but the decor is as good as it should be in a good pharmaceutical museum. The rooms where the medicines were made are brought to life with lifeless mannequins.
