Opificio delle Pietre Dure: Dazzling Dance of Decoration
An exhibition for those who enjoy art made with precious stones, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure Museum was founded in 1588 by Ferdinando I de’ Medici, a prominent member of the Medici family.
A decorative pioneer, the museum’s craftsmen perfected the decorative elements in the Medici Chapel. While visiting the museum, which has supported restoration in many parts of the world throughout history, you will be amazed by the colors, brightness and details of the works.
Floral, fruit and animal patterns are at the forefront of the art genre, and the paintings embroidered on cabinets and tabletops are also dazzling.
The lower floor of the museum exhibits the artifacts mentioned above, while the materials used in the construction of these artifacts are exhibited on the upper floor.
